ArtZ is a home-based business owned and operated by art enthusiast Mary Johnson. ArtZ offers art classes for both children and adults of all ages who are interested in drawing, painting, sculpting, collaging, and more. Classes are offered at public and private schools, daycare centers, retirement facilities, parks and recreation facilities and private businesses. Mary is willing to come to you for a painting party making for a wonderful girls’ night out or group get together. She also helps both girl and boy scouts complete requirements for various art related badges.
For over 50 years, Mary Johnson has lived and worked in Midlothian, Va. Mary has enjoyed spending her life in this area where her creativity has grown. She thanks the many role models and instructors who have contributed to her success in the visual arts field and classroom.
In 2012, she met Robert Caldwell. She credits her success today to well spent time under his instruction. Her passion for acrylic painting can be seen in her many works. Several of her paintings have recently been purchased by local collectors.
Mary has offered acrylic painting workshops on a monthly basis for several years. She realized that her clientele wanted more in-depth acrylic painting instruction. Starting in spring 2017, she began to teach studio classes at the RL Caldwell Visual Arts Studio.
Mary’s style can best be described as realistic drawing and acrylic painting. Her goal is to teach a quality program from which students enjoy learning the skills necessary to draw, paint, and create. She provides a warm and friendly environment helping, encouraging, and challenging each student to reach his or her individual, artistic potential. Most importantly, she enjoys watching her students’ confidence grow as their creative abilities mature. She currently teaches over 125 students each week.
Since 2000, Mary has dedicated her life to sharing her artistic talent with students of all ages. Her classroom experience in includes:
2000/2008-Lead teacher and dedicated art teacher at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
2007/2013-A certified drawing instructor for a local afterschool drawing program.
2010/Current-Dedicated art teacher at Chesterfield Christian Academy where she implements and teaches the art program for grades Kindegarten-12th.
2013/Current-Mary partners with The Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department to offer afterschool and evening visual arts programs.
2015/Current-Mary offers monthly acrylic painting workshops for adults.
2016/Current-Mary works with the Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen to enrich the lives of the residents at Lucy Corr Village through a biweekly art experience.
Mary’s proudest achievement is her home-based business-ArtZ. Since 2013, Mary has enjoyed working with several local businesses listed above. In addition, she offers painting workshops at several area locations.
Mary and her husband of 38 years have resided in Chesterfield County since childhood. They have two sons. Their oldest son is a graduate of Longwood University. Their youngest son is a Junior also attending Longwood University.
